About Us

Welcome to Bootle Dance Academy

Founded in Merseyside in 1992, Bootle Dance Academy was originally known as "Dance Steps" and then "JLC Dance" with branches in Southport, Preston, Blackpool.

Qualifying in 1989, I (Janet) have been fortunate enough to have an amazing career first being coached by Margaret Redmond and Iris Mayers and later working with and being coached by Eric Lashbrooke (Ex work, European and British Champion).

My aim has always been to have a school that is fully inclusive whether your a beginner, wanting to compete or through our Elite Academy train for the profession.

I hope you will find my classes both fun, friendly and informative but most of all fully inclusive.

Principal - Janet Bosson Examiner and Fellow UKA, Fellow IDTA

Aiming for a school that is the best it can be in terms of ability and qualities, means I got to aim high myself.

Since qualifying as an Associate in Ballroom in 1989, I have been homing my craft as a teacher, and performer working has included performances at the Tate Northern, Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Blackpool Tower Circus, as well as appearances on Channel 5, BBC, Channel 4, BBC Ireland, and Japanese TV. Though I started my performance carrier as a ballet dancer in the dance school play age 3 years, some 52 years ago.

But it not all about what you can perform it about understanding how to look after yourself and get the best out of your body so below I have listed my continued development with in the world of dance and fitness.

My work with Disabilities and Dementia (through JLC Dance ) in particular has been recognised and written about in the book “The Unlikely Dancer” by Hazel Rae Minnick, as well as having articles in the IDTA Magazine and local newspaper.

This is me pictured here second left with a number of my dancers and Alzheimer’s Ambassador Anne Nolan. (of the Nolan sisters)

Working closely with Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Our school have helped run a number of events to promote dementia awareness, and I have run “Silver Tea Dances” and “Seated Dance Sessions” for people with disabilities, especially those suffering from Dementia for over 20 years, working with Sefton, Lancashire and Blackpool Councils.

Having lost my hearing as a young adult 28 years, I wears BAHA hearing aids. Find out more
Without hearing aids I have about an 98% loss of hearing, with them I can hear as well as most people.
This means I am in a great place to teach you if your deaf or have any other disability as I am sensitive to your needs.

Email me on prodanceservices@gmail.com to discuss learning to dance,
(I have basic, "very basic" BSL as I did not grow up in the deaf community)
