Lindy Hop Swing

The Lindy hop or Jitterbug originated in the American south lands. It’s related to dancers such as the Charleston, and Shag and is the forerunner to dancers such as the ballroom jive.

Hold is a relaxed open hold with knees flexed and with the leaders right are reaching around the followers back. It is danced with a slight bounce action and a sway to the upper part of the body.

Basic Swing

Leader

  • Left foot side -Slow

  • Right foot to right side – Slow

  • Left foot backwards with weight – Quick

  • Replace weight to right foot – Quick

Follower mirrors also stepping backwards on step 3 but on right foot.

Bridge Break

Leader dancers the Basic Swing Step leading the follower to turn under the leaders left arm. First to followers right and then to followers left.

Follower

  • Walking under arm for two slows to end on leaders left side, turning right – Slow Slow

  • Then steps back right foot with weight – Quick

  • Replace weight to left foot – Quick

  • Walking under arm for two slows to end facing leader turning left – Slow Slow

  • Then steps back right foot with weight – Quick

  • Replace weight to left foot – Quick
