The Polka

The polka is thought to be of Czech Republic origin, danced by several doubles together in what’s known as a round dance. This changed towards the end of the eighteen hundreds as a couple dance as it spread in popularity.

As it spread across Europe each country added to it. The style I have written about here is the polish style of polka which is supposed to be the nearest style to the original dance.

Hold both hands are placed on partners shoulders or in close hold small steps throughout.
